The Online Application Process
Q. Will I be able to apply for more than one early childhood program?
Each parent may submit one application indicating their first and second choice.
Q. How long does it take to complete the online application process?
Typically, the process should take from 10-20 minutes.
Q. What if I do not have access to a computer?
Please contact the school, center, Head Start office or the T-PIECE Early Childhood Department for assistance.
Q. Is there another way of submitting an application other than online?
Yes, for the 2017-2018 school year, contact the. T-PIECE Early Childhood Department at (985)879-6450 for a paper copy of the application.
Q. Once I've submitted the application electronically, how will I know that the submission is successful?
Once the application is completed online, you will receive a generated message based on the email address you provided when you created an account.
Q. Should I allow anyone else to use my account?
It is the user's responsibility to protect the integrity of any information entered in the system. This includes but is not limited to passwords or personal information about you or your child. You must also agree not to share your login information or password with anyone except a parent or legal guardian.
Public Prekindergarten FAQs
Q. What does a parent need to apply?
• Proof of Income
• Child's birth certificate
• Child's Social Security Card
• Child's current immunization (shot) record
• Proof of domicile (street) address
Q. What is considered proof of domicile?
Proof of domicile can be a current utility bill (electric, water or gas), copy of utility deposit, lease, purchase agreement, or a rent receipt. Proof of domicile must show the current address and the parent/guardian's name.
Q. What is considered proof of income?
• Two current consecutive check stubs for each parent or caregiver in the household, OR
• SNAP/Food Stamps, OR
• An official letter from your employer stating the following:
where the parent/guardian is employed
, hourly rate of pay, the average number of hours parent/guardian works per week, OR
• Unemployment Benefits, OR
• Monetary Determination letter from the Workforce Commission, OR
• Statement from the Social Security Administration verifying that the child listed on the application is a recipient of SSI benefits, which must be accompanied by two current check stubs, OR
• Current foster care placement agreement from DCFS, OR
• Parent(s) who are homeless or unemployed must submit a letter of support and income documentation from support source
Q. Can I request special permission for a child in prekindergarten?
According to the funding guidance for the program, children may only attend the school in the area in which the custodial parent resides. There is no special permission in Pre-Kindergarten.
Q. Will all students that apply be accepted into a class?
According to funding guidelines, each class can have a maximum of 20 students. All applications will be reviewed by district staff, and information on acceptance will be mailed to applicants in June of the current school year.
Q. What is the criterion for acceptance? Is it first come, first serve?
Acceptance into a prekindergarten class will NOT be on a first come, first serve basis. First consideration goes to those who qualify according to the Income Guideline (Answer # 2). Other consideration can be based on the following needs: Academic, Social, and/or Family Circumstance.
Q. Does the program accept ‘provisional custody' as proof of custody and/or proof of domicile?
The program does NOT recognize provisional custody for the acceptance process.
Q. My child is CURRENTLY attends the Early Childhood Special Ed. Class at school and/or is receiving speech/OT/PT services at school. Do I have to apply?
YES. In order to be considered for prekindergarten next year, an application MUST be completed
