The Online Application Process


Q. Will I be able to apply for more than one early childhood program?
Each parent may submit one application indicating their first, second and third choices. If applying for public prekindergarten, children MUST attend the school in the area where their parents or legal guardians live.

Q. How long does it take to complete the online application process?
Typically, the process should take from 10-20 minutes.

Q. What if I do not have access to a computer?
Please contact the school, center, Head Start office or the T-PIECE Early Childhood Department for assistance.

Q. Once I've submitted the application electronically, how will I know that the submission is successful?
Once the application is completed online, you will receive a generated message based on the email address you provided when you created an account.

Q. Should I allow anyone else to use my account?
It is the user's responsibility to protect the integrity of any information entered in the system. This includes but is not limited to passwords or personal information about you or your child. You must also agree not to share your login information or password with anyone except a parent or legal guardian.

Q.  What does a parent need to apply?

•    Proof of Income/SNAP Case Benefits (See Question/Answer # 5.)
•    Child’s birth certificate
•    Child’s Social Security Card

•    Child's current immunization (shot) record
•    Proof of domicile (street) address (See Question/Answer # 4.)

Q.   What is considered proof of domicile?

•    Current utility bill or current utility deposit receipt including electronic copies of current utility statements (electric, water or gas only)
•    Rent receipt or lease agreement (apartment or home) with accompanying current utility bill (electric, water or gas only).  If it is an apartment, the individual(s) must be included on the lease.
•    Purchase agreement with accompanying current utility bill (electric, water or gas only)
•    Notarized affidavit of domicile address with affiant’s current utility bill (electric, water or gas only).  If it is an apartment, the individual(s) must be included on the lease.

  Proof of domicile must show the current address and the parent/guardian’s name.

Q.    What is considered proof of income?
•    Two current consecutive check stubs for each parent, caregiver, affiant (the person you live with) in the household,  (if the affiant does not support you financially, in lieu of affiant's proof of income, you must complete
FORM B, OR
•    SNAP/Food Stamp CASE Benefits, OR
•   If you are not a full-time employee, have your employer complete 
FORM C, OR
•    Unemployment Benefits, OR
•    Monetary Determination letter from the Workforce Commission, OR
•    Statement from the Social Security Administration verifying that the child listed on the application is a recipient of SSI benefits,  which must be accompanied by two current check stubs, OR
•    Current foster care placement agreement from DCFS, OR
•    Parent(s) who are unemployed must submit 
FORM A and income documentation from support source

 
Q.    Can I request special permission for a child in prekindergarten?
According to the funding guidance for the program, children may only attend the school in the area in which the custodial parent resides. There is no special permission in Prekindergarten.
 
Q.    Will all students that apply be accepted into a class?
According to funding guidelines, each class can have a maximum of 20 students.  All applications will be reviewed by district staff for ELIGIBILITY, and parents will be notified accordingly of acceptance.


Q.    What is the criterion for acceptance?  Is it first come, first serve?
Acceptance into a prekindergarten class will NOT be on a first come, first serve basis.  First consideration goes to those who qualify according to the Income Guideline (Answer # 2). 


Q.    Does the program accept ‘provisional custody' as proof of custody and/or proof of domicile?
The program does NOT recognize provisional custody for the acceptance process.
 
Q.    My child is CURRENTLY attends the Early Childhood Special Ed. Class at school and/or is receiving speech/OT/PT services at school. Do I have to apply?
YES. In order to be considered for prekindergarten next year, an application MUST be completed
